There are three Superior Courts located in the county of Bristol- Bristol County Superior Court located in Taunton, Bristol County Superior Court- New Bedford and Bristol County Superior Court- Fall River.

As the Taunton police officer approached the vehicle it took off. The police officer was not able to catch up with the defendant but did see the driver throw a white plastic bag outside the window. After the officer retrieved the bag, he found five bags with one ounce of cocaine in each and a sixth bag with a half of an ounce within the thrown bag, totaling 152.31 grams of cocaine with a street value of approximately $12,000 to $15,000. The defendant argued that the evidence was insufficient to establish that the defendant had the specific intent to distribute the cocaine. The Pina Court upheld the conviction of the cocaine trafficking charge because a reasonable jury could infer that the defendant had the specific intent to distribute cocaine. The Court reasoned that the jury could have concluded, beyond a reasonable doubt, that the defendant was unlikely to have that amount of cocaine solely for personal use and that the value, amount and the specific way the cocaine was packaged would indicate that the defendant had the specific intent to distribute the cocaine.
